What You Need vs. What You Want - The Power of Setting a Goal in Crowdfunding

Ever feel like you’re asking for too much? Or do you aim too low because you’re afraid of falling short of your goals? Worry no more. Our brand-new targets let you tell your supporters exactly how much you need, while inspiring your supporters to chip in for a home run!
After all, nothing is impossible in the world of crowdfunding! A model of a Tyrannosaurus rex with Christopher Walken’s head raised $2,000 just last week…
Upgrade that fundraiser
Just imagine: Hundreds of friends groupfund vacation homes and classy Vegas suites on Crowdtilt each week. They set their “tilt,” raise their funds, and pack their party clothes to Vegas!
But imagine if they were to reach a “target” of $1,200 alongside their “tilt” of $800! They’d be able to upgrade their parties to a luxury, top-floor suite complete with a jacuzzi and unlimited bar tab. This party sounds like too much fun for even Jennifer Lawrence to handle.
More inspiration:
- Crowdfunding a surprise gift for your graduating friend? Set the tilt at $800 (the minimum cost for a nice laptop). But set the “target” as $1,200, and cross your fingers for an upgrade to the Macbook Air! She’ll be overwhelmed.
- Fundraising for a local family in need? Instead of taking whatever you can get, set a target too. If you hit $700, you’ll be able to throw in some Christmas presents.
- Crowdfunding a party? ($200) Aim for $400 to upgrade your drinks, and decorations. You could even throw in a… festive mime?
Telling your supporters your “target” helps you make an awesome goal even better. It’s clear. It’s effective. And it’s judgement free :)

Really, don’t be shy.
“Target” helped this real life campaign raise $48,097 more than its tilt…

Boldly speak up about your goals. Here’s how:
Target comes in 3 easy steps:
- Fill in your tilt amount when you set up your Crowdtilt.
- Fill in your target amount too!
- (Optional) Encourage your supporters to contribute to the target in your description.
It’s that easy!
Finally, here’s a gallery of high-fives to encourage you through your tilting journeys!
(At Crowdtilt we’re all about high-fives)
You may be small, but you are filled with power.

Puppy eyeing your way to the top? #respect

We’re going nuts over you :)

You plunged straight in.

To make giant things happen.

You’re so awesome, we can’t bear it.

Neigh-ver again should you dare to dream small.

Because you are pure fierceness in disguise.

Happy tilting!

Keep reaching for the stars,

P.S. If you haven’t heard about David Henneberry’s boat in TIME, Bloomberg, or Buzzfeed yet, read about it here. It’s so inspiring it would be a crime not to.
Real-Time Campaign Updates

If you’ve ever run a campaign on Crowdtilt, you may have noticed that you couldn’t make changes to your campaign after the first person contributed. That restriction is now a thing of the past. Starting today, you can make changes to your campaign at any time. Here’s why this is cool:
Fundraising on Crowdtilt just went to a completely different level…

Starting Today:
- You can fundraise on behalf of any registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
- Crowdtilt will automatically disburse funds directly to the non-profit organization
- And Crowdtilt will now automatically send tax-deductible receipts to donors
This means you can now start a fundraiser for the Red Cross or Salvation Army for you and friends on Crowdtilt without worrying about how to transfer the funds or how contributors will claim a tax-deductible donation receipt when your campaign succeeds. It’s all automatically handled through Crowdtilt! Isn’t that awesome? We think so too :)
Why are we doing this?
This enormous improvement to Crowdtilt has been spurred by your incredible fundraising efforts for causes and non-profits on Crowdtilt.com, as well as the massive adoption for Hurricane Sandy-related relief efforts. Over the last few weeks, the Crowdtilt community has collectively raised more than $180,000 for those affected by the Hurricane! While there are many noteworthy campaigns, both big and small, we wanted to highlight a few of our favorites:
- 10,000 Lights for Children
- iPad Brigade - Helping Teachers Impacted By Sandy Rebuild Their Classrooms
- Hurricane Sandy Help Fund
With Crowdtilt, we set out to build the web’s simplest and most effective collaboration tool around money, and today’s news is a big step in the direction of collaboration around charitable giving, just in time for the holidays! Read more about Crowdtilt & non-profits here or subscribe to our blog.
We can’t wait to see what this new functionality will make possible for you and your group this holiday season.
New Feature: Easily Invite Friends to your Campaign
We are super excited to announce this (AWESOME) new feature on Crowdtilt!!!
Starting TODAY, you can easily invite people to your campaign or create a Facebook Event page through our new invite feature right from your campaign page! This has been one of our most requested features in the few months since our launch, so we’re excited to give it to all users.

This is how it works:
After you create your campaign, use the “Invite Friends” button on your campaign page to bring up the invite feature or Facebook Event page creation link. If you are the admin of the campaign, there is a link on the top section of your campaign page. You, along with visitors to your page, will also see an “Invite” button below your campaign image to spread the word as well through Facebook posts, Gmail/Yahoo Mail/Hotmail/AOL Mail, or simply copying and pasting the link to the campaign page.
Just pick your most preferred way to share your campaign, and we’ll help you get the word out.
Invite people through Facebook:

You have two options when sharing your campaign through Facebook.
- Create a Facebook event to quickly share your campaign with friends, get them involved in a conversation about your campaign, and post updates. (This is only for campaign admins)
- You can also choose to write a message on your friends’ walls. They will see it the next time they check their Facebook profile, or might even get a notification on their smartphone right away depending on their phone’s settings.
Facebook events will automatically know whether you’ve created a public or private campaign on Crowdtilt. Public campaigns on Crowdtilt will create a public event on Facebook, while private campaigns will create a “secret” event, so nobody will find out about it, except for the people you specifically invite to it.
Invite through Email:

If you prefer to invite your friends by email instead, you can now easily access your contacts from the major email providers including Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail, and AOL Mail - All directly through your campaign page.
Simply select the mail service you primarily use, then retrieve your contact list and select the people you want to invite, and whenever you’re ready, fire your invites off!
Sharing your campaign with your friends is now a breeze :) Want to try it out yourself? Start a campaign today.
We hope you enjoy this feature and know that we built it because we love you.

New Features: 24 Hour Direct Deposit & International Credit Cards
More awesomeness dropping this week @ Crowdtilt - 2 features we’ve added:
1) 24-Hour, Direct Deposits… Yes, 24-hour Next-Day Deposits.
Pooling money online has NEVER EVEN COME CLOSE TO THIS! Until now.
Once your direct deposit is set up, you are guaranteed to get your funds within the next business day (and once your direct deposit is set up, you never have to set it up/configure it again)! This is faster than what any of the major payments platforms currently offer, and it’s ONLY ON CROWDTILT :)

2) International Credit Card Support!!
You can now start a campaign on Crowdtilt and accept contributions from all over the world! Do you have friends in Canada, France, or Japan? Invite them to your campaign and make your community span across the globe. And your friends get to take advantage of our One-Click Easy Payments :)

Our goal is simple: to help you do more with your group. We hope these two new features are another step in this direction.
New Features: Follow & Invite Friends
We are excited to announce two REALLY BIG features coming out today!
Introducing Follow Friends

You can now easily see what your friends are doing on Crowdtilt by following people. Once you click on the “follow” button under your friend’s image in the campaign community or on their profile page, we will let you know when he or she starts a new public campaign. New private campaigns will not send these notifications, so you can still safely plan that surprise birthday party!

If you want to see who is following you, as well as who you follow, click on the “Followers” or “Following” links on your profile page. And just for thrills, we’ll ping you if somebody starts following you.
Invite your Friends to Crowdtilt

If you want more of your friends to join you on Crowdtilt, you can now effortlessly invite them right from your profile and we’ll do the rest. Send invitations via email, Facebook, Twitter, or take the reign yourself and share a short link any way you like. We can also help you access your contacts from popular email service providers like Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, and AOL, so you don’t have to guess on emails addresses either.
Ready to check out these new features? Jump on over to our website here.
New Feature: Custom Message to Contributors
You can now send custom messages to anybody that contributes to your campaign. You can add this message when setting up your campaign.
Here is the field you will have to fill out in the campaign form.

Your message will be shown in the email after people contribute to your campaign (regardless whether it is tilted or not).

If you only want to send a message to everybody once your campaign tilted, you can use our older “Contact all contributors” button, and write your message there.
